Who we are
RentStraight ("we", "us") is an online platform that helps landlords in Lagos let their properties directly to tenants, without agency or inspection fees. You can contact us about anything in this policy at [email protected].
What we collect
If you sign up as a landlord:
- Your name, WhatsApp number and email address (email is optional)
- Where you live and how you currently let your property
- Details about the property: area, type, number of units, when it's available, the yearly rent and the caution deposit
- Which verification documents you say you can show us
If you join the tenant waitlist:
- Your name and WhatsApp number
- The area and type of property you want, your yearly budget and when you plan to move
- If you choose to tell us, how much you paid in fees the last time you rented
Automatically: like most websites, our hosting provider processes basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type to keep the site secure and working. We don't use advertising trackers.
Verification documents
We do not collect ID cards, ownership papers or bills through this website. When we verify a landlord, we contact them directly from our official number and explain how documents will be checked and stored at that time. We only use these documents to confirm who you are and that you can let the property.
How we use your information
- To contact you about your listing, your verification, or homes that match what you're looking for
- To check that landlords are real and listings are genuine, to protect tenants from scams
- To understand rents and fees in Lagos. We may publish totals and averages (for example, "tenants in Yaba told us they paid an average of ₦X in fees"), but never your name, number or anything that identifies you
- To improve RentStraight
We use your information because you chose to give it to us when you filled in a form, and so we can do what you asked us to do. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We only share it with:
- Service providers that run the website for us: Cloudflare (hosting and security) and Google (where sign-ups are stored, and the fonts on this site). They may store data on servers outside Nigeria, and they use strong security protections.
- Landlords and tenants, when you ask us to connect you. We won't share your phone number with anyone without telling you first.
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while we're helping you. If you haven't been in touch with us for 12 months, we delete your sign-up details. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
How we protect it
Only the RentStraight team can see your information. Our accounts are protected with strong passwords and 2-step verification, and the website uses a secure (https) connection.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you can:
- Ask for a copy of the information we have about you
- Ask us to correct it
- Ask us to delete it
- Withdraw your consent or object to how we use it
Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
Children
RentStraight is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Stay safe from scams
RentStraight will never:
- Charge you to view a property
- Ask for your bank PIN, password or OTP
- Ask you to pay rent into an account that isn't in the verified landlord's name

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For big changes, we'll let you know directly.
